Fullerton Cell and Cartridge Collection for CharityDonations benefit Anixter CenterThe LPCC Community Outreach Task Force is coordinating the Lincoln Park Cell and Cartridge Collection for Charity, a collection drive for used cell phones and empty laser and inkjet printer cartridges. Collected items will be sent to the FundingFactory, a fundraising and recycling program that converts the items into cash. All proceeds from the collection will benefit Anixter Center’s educational program for children (the LPCC’s 2006 holiday charity recipient). The collection will take place during September and October, with drop off boxes available at LPCC events during this time frame as well as at various member businesses throughout Lincoln Park. Every time you donate a used cell phone or empty printer cartridge at an LPCC event in September and October, you will be entered in a raffle to win various prizes. Click here (pdf) for a list of drop off centers. 18th DAC Officer Appreciation DayDonations and volunteers neededThe 18th District Advisory Committee (DAC) will hold its annual Officer Appreciation Day, starting on Thursday, September 21, at 5:00 a.m. During a 24-hour period, the 18th DAC and other community members will serve meals and snacks to 18th District police officers and staff in the Near North Station at 1160 North Larrabee. The event will include special presentations throughout the day, and everyone in the community is encouraged to stop by to express their appreciation. The Chicago Police Department does not provide funds for this event. Donations from businesses, organizations and individuals cover all expenses, including catering and invitations.
